Is YÖS Abolished?
Foreign Student Exams (YÖS) is the general name of the exams organized by universities for the admission of foreign students.
In December 2023, in the decision published by the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), ” In order to use public resources efficiently and to select more qualified students, ÖSYM has been conducting the Turkish Foreign Student Admission Examination (TR-YÖS) in Turkey and abroad since 2023, taking into account that as of the 2024-2025 academic year, only the TR-YÖS Exam will be used for Foreign Student Admission in higher education state institutions, The university senate determined by the secondary education grade point averages, countries’ own national exams, taking into account the results of international exams, canceling the issues regarding the exams they conduct and the exams conducted by universities (YÖS) in their directives / criteria.
With this statement, Foreign Student Exams (YÖS) organized by state universities have been abolished and the Turkish Foreign Student Admission Examination (TR-YÖS) organized by ÖSYM has become the only valid exam for international student admissions.
